It is an industrial surface hardening treatment for making components out of metallic materials. In this method, the reaction of the nitriding media is not due to the temperature, but because of the gas ionized state. In this specific, intense electric fields are used to generate the ionized molecules of the gas around the surface to be nitrided. For starters, such highly active gas with ionized particles is called plasma that is the name of the technique. The intended gas used for Plasma nitriding is purely nitrogen. There are numerous hot plasmas that are classified as plasma jets that are used for metal cutting, wielding, cladding and spraying.
